Answer: Bouganvillia Flower are all White…The magnificent displays of pinks and reds that we see are the plants Bracts.

These Bouganvillias are Framing the footbridge behind the Horseshoe Bay Beach Front Shops.

Spent the afternoon lazing in a hammock beside the pool, where Sam works, reading a book.

Reflections in the Boche Balls

I have been introduced to a new game, or at least new to me, which I rather enjoyed playing…Boche, played with a small wooden ball and six steel balls…

Reflections…The reflection of the Pergola roof in the Bouche Balls reminded me of Spider Webs.

We took the Boche Balls to the Beach today for a little Beach Boche…I liked the photo below of the Boys playing Boche, They looked cute as they moved in line to the next location, it reminded me of a Charle’s Angels type formation.

Fishing at Sunset, well Sam was Fishing, It was Very windy and I was in the shelter reading a book.

Holiday Snaps Day 16 October 17th, 2007

On the 17th October 1982 Samual W was born, 25 years, Happy Birthday Mate…

The First Light of the Sun

We started celebrating his Birthday when we got up at 5 am and went to Authur Bay to watch the Sun Rise.

Magnetic Island Sunrise

After the sun had risen we explored the beach, took photos of seaweed and shells we found on the beach and enjoyed the peace and beauty of the early morning.

Early Morning at Authur Bay

Remember on day one I blogged a photo of the Red Baron on Horseshoe Bay, and I said more about the Red Baron in a later post, this is the later post…

The Red Baron

The advertising for Red Baron Seaplanes says…An experience worth coming to Magnetic Island for … This movie star is now gracing the skies above beautiful Magnetic Island. The historical Grumman Sea-Cat starred in the movie The Phantom and is now being cast in a new adventure. It’s the only two passenger, open cockpit bi-plane on floats in the world. Billy Zane flew in it, Catherine Zeta Jones flew in it, now it’s your turn to fly in the Red Baron for an experience of a lifetime.

Ready To Fly

Ready to Fly

Authur Bay From the air…The white line just to the left of centre is the roof of the house that is behind Sammy in the photo above…The outcrop of rocks between that house and the plane is where we ate Lunch on Day 15…and on the peak of the two hills are the Old Forts that I walked to on Day 11.

Magnetic Island from the Air

The Flight took us around the Island and to finish the pilot banked around a couple of times so that we were on our sides…as the advertising said it was an experience of a lifetime…

25 YearsParty Hat

We had Lunch at the local Pub and borrowed their 25 table number to take a B’day Photo…

After lunch we relaxed at the Beach Front for the afternoon.

This evening we made him wear a party hat to be in the right mood and gathered with friends for a lovely evening to finish his special day…

Party Is Over…Looks like it might be Bed Time.

Party is over - Bed Time

I will leave you with a photo of an unwelcome guest…Cane Toads were introduced to Australia to control the cane beetle, which they did, they also made themselves at home, with no natural enemies they survived and thrived becoming a huge pest…

Looking Down

This morning we went to Nelly Bay for Sam to do some things, when he was finished we bought some sandwiches and drinks and took them back to Arthur Bay where we climbed up the rocks above where we had been snorkeling and ate our lunch sitting on the top…The photo on the right is the view looking down the other side of the rocks.

Looking up

Sam made a cheese platter for our dinner and, with an early start planned for the next day, we had an early night.

Bush Stone Curlew

This bird is a Bush Stone Curlew, this is the first one that I had seen, although I had heard plenty as their Strangled Cries can be heard every morning and every evening.

Mumsy cocktailThis morning Sam and I went to Nelly Bay and this afternoon after Sam went to work I went down to the beach front at Horshoe Bay and spent the afternoon with some of Sam’s friends.

This evening we went to Bungalow Bay for Dinner and after dinner Sam made up ‘the Mumsie Cocktail’, I don’t know what he put in it but he knows my tastes well and based it on milk with a sprinkle of choclate on top, yummy.

parakeets aren\'t shyEvery day, at 4.30 pm, Bungalow Bay Youth Hostel feeds the Birds…They come in there hundreds, make a gaud awful noise, are not at all shy and poop on anyone that doesn’t get under cover quick enough.

Parakeets

Visited some fiends of Sam’s where some of them played guitar most of the evening…I really liked this zoomed in detail photo that Sam took.

Holiday Snaps Day 12 October 13th, 2007

This morning the English girls departed for their next destination and we did some washing and had a lazy morning. I walked Sam to work and then carried on to the beach front shops and had a cup of coffee before wandering home again…I liked that everything was withing walking distance and one of the locals had shown me the butterfly walk so instead of walking beside the road I could wander through a lovely grove of trees for part of the way…walking was also starting to give me the lie of the land, yesturday when we were at the top of the Forts we could see an oval, on the way home today I realized that I was walking past an oval and this photo looking back up to the Forts From the Street Sam lives in, is the only photo that I took today.

Holiday Snaps Day 11 October 12th, 2007

running repairI decided to stitch some miniature thongs for the English backpackers and Sam’s flat mate K…Having decided that I would like to stitch the miniature thongs I went looking for something to stitch the thongs onto, I found in my buzy box a business card sized piece of tymtax (sp?? thick, stiff interfacing), I cut it into 3 pieces and stitched safty pins onto the back, I originally intended to do just the thongs but the white background looked boring so K painted the backgrounds while I cut the rubber from the side of a thong…

While the PVA Glue that I used to seal the colour was drying we went to the beach…I took needle and thread to the beach to do a running repair on the pocket of Sam’s work apron so that he could wear it to work this afternoon…

While at the beach we collected a few tiny shells and a pinch of sand to use on the Thong Brooches… and together with a few stitches of green thread to make the seaweed 3 dimensional they formed a perfect little background for the thongs…I photographed them on the thong that I cut the rubber from.

View from Magnetic Island Forts

Corner of Magnetic Island FortThis afternoon while Sam and K where at work I went on a 2 hour walk, with the English girls, up the hill to the old Forts, the photo above is the view from one of the forts with the other fort on the left…the photo on the right is a detail of the corner of one of the forts…

It had been a long but very relaxed day and we finished it with a friendly game of pool.
