I started the new year by flying to north with my sister for our youngest brothers 40th Birthday, the quote ‘the most bautful baby ever brought home’ is what I wrote in his baby book when I was 13 years old, the miss spelling has become a family joke.
we have 2 brothers living in north queensland, both live on the same road and between them they have 4 kids and as spending time with the our neice and nephews was a very special I chose to illustrate our holiday as a kids drawing.

Today is 2 years since I started my sampler…I haven’t quite caught up on stitching the Journal events but am nearly up to date, todays details bring me up till christmas, and hemming the bottom and binding the edges to finish the panel takes a few days, so I am happy with my progress
Below are the 9 panels of my sampler shown side by side

I have cross stitched my little blue car for the last weekend of November when I drove to Nowra to visit a friend…we shopped in Kiama, lunched at Berry, talked and stitched and went to the Nowra Quilters meeting and had a lovely time.
While I was there I took a photo of her sampler (see below) and have added some of her stitches to my sampler.
As the day I returned was the first day of Summer I have slipped Summer in as one of the rows of cross stitch patterns.
While I was there I kept my fingers buzy stitching the Celtic block below, it was an extra block for a charity quilt that my friend had started and I was able to save her the time of stitching it down…I used one side of the pattern to embroider on my sampler.

October is Birthday month in our family and when we got home from mums Party we had another party to organize for my Daughters 30th
|
At The Beginning of October I flew north with my sister and all our kids, our brothers flew south with their families and together with local family and friends we celebrated our Mum’s 80th Birthday.
The ribbons across the bottom and the dragonfly and butterfly are the ones that we used to decorate her cake.

Taking Control has 2 meanings…It had been some time since I had done any stitching for which there was 2 reasons…
The first reason was that life was distracting me but I didn’t mind because I was getting a lot of good things done and felt as if I was taking control of my life.
The second reason was the black background which is much harder to design onto and thus requires more thought and takes longer but that alone wouldn’t have stopped me because I really love what I have stitched on the black background…What was stopping me is that black is difficult to stitch onto at the best of times and when you have to ware glasses it is even harder and that was stopping me from stitching, what to do, take control, cut off the rest of the black, replace it with cream and start stitching again.
The second detail is a Celtic design from a book that Sharon lent me when I was doing the designs from the covers of Cadfael novels…I altered it to fit the space I had and used it as a warm up exercise while I thought about what I wanted to stitch next…

The Beads stitched along the join in the fabric are the beads that I bought at the quilt and craft show.
The space at the beginning of the row is where I was going to put a badge I bought at the Alice Cooper Concert but it looked to clunky so I didn’t use the badge but couldn’t bring myself to fill in the space, I wrote the name and date of the concert on the back.
The Flowers are for Spring and during spring is Florade which is Canberras Annual flower Festival.

To get this year started I have been for a 5 day Holiday with my sister to North Queensland to visit our 2 youngest brothers and their families…We had a lovely visit and now it is time to get on with 2010, I want to catch up the stitching and blogging of my sampler by the 23rd january which will be its second anniversarry.
Last year I Blogged a group quilt, Peace in Pieces made by canberra krazy quilters, in todays details I have recorded the new variations of stitches that I did on my block in that quilt along with the information that Peace in Pieces won first prize in the group quilt section of Canberra Quilters 2009 Exhibition.

This is another design based on a design from the cover of a Cadael cover….I was going to add more detail to this design but left it as is because I like the uncomplicated line of the pattern.
