She is a Blue Winged Kookaburra, in the photo on the right you can just see a hint of blue on the wings, in the right light the tips of her wings are a luminescent blue.
Annie -that’s a Laughing Kookaburra, not a Blue-winged. It’s the same species you will see around Canberra, they have some blue on their wings. I just posted a photo of one I took in Canberra last month that shows the blue quite well on flickr – see http://www.flickr.com/photos/deedee53
I wish I had a photo of a blue-winged kooka but they are only found in the tropics!

She *is* gorgeous! That was my first thought when I saw the top picture. What a lovely creature! She seems so tame, too.
