Now that Easter is over I have got time to record Easter on my Sampler or st least get it started…I started by drawing 2 eggs and outlineing them in black stem stitch, the black looked to severe so I overstitched it with a fine varigated matalic thread which has softened the edges.

The Take it Further Design concept for February is What are you old enough to remember…I remember my aunty taking me to the Lismore Agricultural Show when I was 4 years old (1960), I remember boats floating around in a tank of water, I remember performing bears, dressed in cloths, riding bikes and pushing prams, I remember fairy floss and I remember being car sick on the windy road home…and I still have a silhouette that was cut that day
Today I went to the Royal Canberra Agricultural show, on the way in I was telling my friend what I remembered and when we came across the same guy that had cut the silhouette in 1960 and couldn’t resist having him cut another one.
Without kids we had a lovely day, we wandered around at our own pace, checking out the animals, looked at the crafts, we watched the family circus and had a ride on the ferris wheel (the capsules were air conditioned with piped music), we watched demonstrations, we sampled products and sat in the massage chairs and on the way out I bought some fairy floss.

Top Row…Is the same variation as the bottom row last night, but done one sided with different stitch lengths with a Rayon Thread and trimmed with tiny straight sitches (stranded cotton thread) and beads.
Middle row…This Loopy line, of Stem Stitch worked with silk buttonhole twist thread, seperates TAST week 1 stitching, which has taken 2 weeks to stitch 33 Herringbone variations, from…
Bottom row…TAST week 2 which was Buttonhole Stitch the first half of the seam is buttonhole stitch as used to make buttonholes, right side of the seam is Buttonhole Stitch as used to hem blankets and also known as Blanket Stitch…and my Buttonhole Stitch is worked with Silk Buttonhole Twist Thread.

I am so enjoying my sampler for many reason one of which is that I can take it with me and even on a buzy day I can still get a couple of stitches done.
Top row is a basic Herringbone stitch done with a varigated cotton pearl size 5 thread with a cotton thread woven through it.
Bottom row is a variation that I found on
Connie’s Blog, it drew my attention because I like this use of bugle beads…I have stitched the herringbone with 4 strands of silk floss.

Over the years I have made many New Years Resolutions, most of which have been forgotten within weeks if not days but 12 months ago I made a New Years Resolution, to blog regularly ALL Year, I set myself the doable target of a minimum of one post per week which fitted with participating in Sharon’s Take a Stitch Tuesday Challenge…I also started 2007 with the private goal of bettering my record of 100 consecutive days of posting that I had done as part of Sharon’s 100 days 100 details challenge…
I not only kept my 2007 resolution but, having completed the TAST Challenge and blogging 364 posts, I exceeded it with the additional benefits of making my mother’s Memory Quilt, finishing a few UFOs and then there has been the pleasure of sharing and the delight of meeting new friends.
And so it is again time to make a New Years Resolution…I have thought about what I could resolve to do that would be as beneficial but don’t think that I can go past Last Years Resolution and thus I herby announce that My 2008 New Years Reslution is To Blog Regularly ALL Year….included in that blogging will be Sharon’s Take It Further Challenge and The Taming of my Studio, also influenced by Sharon.

This morning I received a phone call from my sister to say that she needed me and my Camera.
She has had a Cactus for 20 odd years…it doesn’t flower every year but has had individual flowers which last about 24 hours…
This year 8 flowers have blossomed on the same night and she needed me and my camera to get a photo of it and being a lightly overcast day the lighting was in favour of getting good photos.
After I had taken the photos she told me I could blog them if I liked because the flowers are so beautiful they should be shared.

Spent today comforting a friend and didn’t get any stitching done so I have a couple more of the photos that I took yesturday to show you.
A Black Swan guides her chicks to the shore.
Ducks taking to flight together…When I took the photo I didn’t see the boat and was amused that in the photo the ducks look as if they are running across the top of the water raceing the boat.
And a Pelican that was in a quite backwater, he was sitting still so I had time to zoom in and get a good shot…The waterlilys and reflections make a nice background for him.

Today was a lovely Sunny Day and we went for our walk along the Shores of Lake Burley Griffin.
Looking West to where the walk started you can see on the left the Captain Cook Memorial Jet and On the right of the photo in the distance is Black Mountain Tower.
Looking East you can see The Carillion, A huge musical instrument which has bells at the top of the tower that are played with a keyboard that is pounded with the fists.
Blundell’s Cottage is an historic house museum.
The Museum was closed but even the outside of Blundell’s cottage is charming.
All around the cottage there are lovely gardens.
Out the back of the cottage is a Water Tank on a Stand.
Out the side is a lovely rustic piece of old farm machinery.

When family and friends visit from out of town, showing them around and doing touristy things is like having a holiday at home.
Today, the first day of Summer, we planned on going for a walk along the shores of Lake Burley Griffin…Plans we changed when it started to rain as we drove into the carpark.
On the way to the Lake, before it rained, we had pulled into the Government House Lookout where I took this photo of Government House where the Governor General of Australia lives and is where our new Prime Minister will be sworn in on Monday.
