Ghiordes Knot or Turkey Rug stitch

Victorian tufting is done by doing a narrow row of herringbone stitch (gold thread) and then doing another row of herringbone stitch (red thread) over the first row…then cut down the middle of both rows and trim to an even length.

Yellow Banksia Rose September 24th, 2006

After I said that I would post a flower a day for September I started to wonder if I actually had 30 different flowers in the garden but now that I am into the last week I know that I can do it because since then different plants have started to blossom like todays Banksia Rose.

Putting on the Glad Rags September 23rd, 2006

Tonight I have been out to Canberra Quilters 30th Birthday Dinner…encouraged by a friend and with the help of my sister and niece I Dressed for the occasion…we took photos but my Camera, which takes wonderful macro detail photos, does not do so well with the bigger pictures and the photos were overexposed beyond my skills to fix them but while trying to fix the exposure I came up with the image below which rather amused me, we took the photo before I put on my shoes so the image has me barefoot in the kitchen but definetly not pregnant and not cooking either lol.

Day 93 – Stumpwork Sampler – Needlelace September 21st, 2006

Needlelace Sample

The basics of doing needlelace are to have a base to draw the pattern and work on, in my sample I have calico stretched into a small hoop with the pattern drawn on tracing paper. Thread or wire is couched to the pattern outline, I use a bright contrasting thread for the couching so that it is easy to see when it is removed at the end…The area inside the couched threads is filled with Buttonhole filling stitches which are done done on the surface, in my sample I still have the top right portion to fill…when the area is filled the couching thread is removed leaving you with a free standing piece of lace.

Tonights Detail is some of the many Buttonhole filling patterns used for needlelace.
