Day 44 – Twisted Cord August 3rd, 2006

Twisted Cord

There is nothing like a dead line for getting projects finished…I entered ‘A Charming Garden”, my Bags of Fun Challenge into The Canberra Quilters Annual Exhibition…tomorrow is hand in day…today I put the handle on the bag which was finished, except for the handle last, November…The stumbling block was what to use for the handle, I had considered wire, leather, denim and cords…after long consideration I thought that a cord that looked a little like a vine would probably suit the bag best…A twisted cord…and not only does my bag have a handle now but I also have todays detail.

I Chose colours that matched the bag with a lot of green to get the vine effect and a variety of threads which include chenille, rats tail, silk ribbon, ribbon floss, Metallic threads, eye lash and lumpy knitting wools.

To make the Cord I cut Lengths of thread a little longer than twice the length I wanted for the handle….I got a friend to hold one end while I twisted the cords from the other end…when I thought that they were twisted enough, (I kept the twist loose for this cord because I didn’t want to squash the fluffy bits), I held the middle point and passed the second end to my friend to hold it with the first end and gave him strict instructions not to let go of the ends…When I then let go of the fold the twisted threads twisted back on each other forming a lovely cord…
